Restorative Treatments that will make you smile again
Sports Dentistry
Our special sports dentistry unit deals with all aspects of dental trauma, whether it was sporting in origin, an accident, or an assault.
Prevention is better than cure and we supply custom fitted mouth-guards, which have been proven to dramatically reduce the incidence of dental trauma and concussions.
Tooth Extractions
Extractions are one of the greatest causes of fear and anxiety in dentistry and there is no reason to worry. We will only extract a tooth if there is no option to save it or if it is causing complications. We carefully assess the tooth prior to extraction. A clinical decision will be made whether to extract the tooth under local anaesthetic or IV sedation.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) is a means of saving a tooth that may be damaged by fracture, infection or decay. The purpose is to restore the tooth and surrounding tissues to health, relieving both the dental pain and infection. Without root canal treatment, the only other alternative is to have the infected tooth removed, and replace it with either an implant, a fixed bridge or a removable denture.
FISSURE SEALANTS
A fissure sealant is a plastic coating that covers the pits and fissures (the biting surface) of premolar and molar teeth. It acts as a barrier and helps prevents decay. Having a fissure sealant placed is straightforward and pain-free! The tooth is cleaned, etched, dried and the coating is painted on the tooth. It is set with a special light, which hardens the coating.
Tooth Fillings
Fillings are a way to restore damaged, cracked, broken or decayed teeth back to their normal shape and function. A filling involves removal of the decayed material and cleaning of the affected area. A lining material is generally then placed over the nerve of the tooth to protect it, and then a filling material is placed to restore the tooth.
Hygienist Treatments
Melissa, Emer and Deborah are the hygienists at Colm Smith Dental. They are an integral part of the dental team. They also play a very important role in maintaining oral hygiene in patients undergoing implant, orthodontic or crown and bridge treatment, where immaculate oral hygiene is essential, as well as in those patients that have a history of gum disease to prevent any relapse.
Dental Checkups
At Colm Smith Dental, all patients undergoing a routine check-up will receive a comprehensive assessment, using the latest technology to provide you with a personalise treatment plan. The aim of a dental examination is to look for and detect any signs of dental disease or other problems, so that they can be treated as soon as possible to prevent any potential problems becoming more serious at a later stage.
