Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that helps to straighten teeth without the use of the typical metal braces. Invisalign involves wearing a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners and tooth coloured ‘attachments’ to help move your teeth into the correct position.

Fixed appliances are fixed braces or ‘train tracks’ which are used to straighten your teeth. They are glued to your teeth. They may be metal or ceramic (‘clear/cosmetic’).

Fixed braces are available in tooth coloured varieties that blend in with the natural colour of teeth. At Colm Smith Dental & Specialist Centre we use American Orthodontics’ Radiance Plus brackets which delivers exceptional results with features other cosmetic brackets just can’t match.

A functional appliance is a removable appliance brace that works on the upper AND lower teeth at the same time. It utilises the growth phase during puberty in children to correct jaw discrepancies.

A retainer is a ‘holding brace’. All patients need to wear retainers after treatment. They can either be removable or fixed, also known as permanent retainer, splint, wire or bar.

Removable appliances are braces that can be taken in and out of the mouth. They are not glued of ‘fixed’ to the teeth like conventional train track braces.

As part of your orthodontic treatment plan, you may require the help and intervention of our Oral Surgery team. All Specialist Oral surgery procedures are carried out by our Specialist Oral Surgeon, Mr. Chris Bell. All procedures are performed ‘in-house saving you the time and expense of travelling further afield. If required, your procedure may be performed under IV Sedation.

Once your teeth are in the correct position, then the size, shape and colour can be reinvented to give you that beautiful smile you longed for.
